DESIGNING A PICTURE-PERFECT LANDSCAPE: THE NEW EMILY CARR UNIVERSITY OF ART + DESIGN CONNECTS TO THE COMMUNITY
This September students walking into Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, British Columbia, will walk into a brand-new space designed to empower ideas and learning. The $122 million campus will accommodate 1,800 students and features three atriums with sweeping views of the mountains, two auditoriums, a theatre that can transform into a ballroom or cinema, and a pedestrian spine that runs the length of the building.

NEW DIGS FOR THE ROYAL ALBERTA MUSEUM
Alberta’s new Royal Alberta Museum, built in Edmonton, was designed to facilitate exploration of and connection to the thousands of artifacts this new facility will house. Natural materials, like limestone, were chosen for strength and durability; an advanced control system allows for varying settings specific to displays, throughout the facility; and the design weaves between interior and exterior, through the use of gardens and roof terraces.

REGINA’S NEW MOSAIC STADIUM TACKLES CLIMATIC CHALLENGES, SCORES A TOUCHDOWN
Whether you bleed Rider green, or cheer against Rider Nation, you have to admit that the football club’s new stadium is designed with both fans and football in mind. The team takes to the turf starting this season and fans are eager to fill the stands. What everyone will see is a design that includes over 130,000 square feet of translucent Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) fabric roofing, approximately 400 LED fixtures with wireless control, and seating for 33,000.

BUILDING THE FUTURE: A NEW STANDARD FOR MODERN SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION
Creating a learning environment that is flexible, open and comfortable, while integrating a connection with the outdoors, are some of the goals of this new 77,000 square foot school, being built in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Scheduled to welcome students this fall, the design of the school is far from typical. Its layout is modern, its technology state of the art, its design accessible for all students, and its envelope will help it achieve LEED Gold standard for environmental sustainability.
