“Fashionable” Studio Collection Will Inspire Your Next Design Project
Uniboard® Canada Inc., a leading manufacturer of engineered wood products and decorative composite wood panels (TFL), recently launched Studio, an exclusive new collection of 20 digital designs; the first TFL collection of its kind in North America.
Unveiled for the first time at the Wood Design Show last month, the Studio Collection is guaranteed to deliver breathtaking aesthetics to large-scale commercial or residential building projects all across North America. The inspirations for this collection – art, graffiti, fashion and photography – are grounded in creativity, making the 20 new designs visually stunning and culturally significant.
We recently reached out to Uniboard to learn more about the inspiration behind Studio and how the company’s newest collection is changing the game for interior designers, architects and those in the commercial and institutional segments.
The inspiration behind Studio
Uniboard has proudly maintained a reputation as North America’s leading supplier of Thermally Fused laminates for decades. With Studio, the company sought to take another bold step forward in order to continue to push the boundaries of modern design.
“We asked ourselves, how are we able to take the innovations and inspirations we see in other design sectors – fashion, art, photography – and apply them to our own product offerings,” says Don Raymond, Vice President, Marketing and US Sales at Uniboard. “Finding creative solutions that can make a difference and inspire us to always stay one step ahead are what continue to drive us at Uniboard; and we wanted to make this statement with our new collection.”
Art
Uniboard’s products are generally inspired by European sophistication and elegance, much of which was founded on revolutionary pieces of art delivered by the Michelangelos and Monets of the world. From the halls of ancient museums to the ways in which we choose to decorate the homes we live in; art is all around us and has been ingrained into society for thousands of centuries.
“For many, art is a way of life,” says Raymond. “This was the core inspiration for our Studio Collection – from the rhythmic Urban Art texture to the more subtle Gardener’s Bliss, we’ve made nuance and beauty readily available for the design community.”
Graffiti
Inspired by the abundant street art in Uniboard’s home province of Quebec, often used to beautify older buildings and liven up entire neighbourhoods and communities, the Studio Collection offers several bold colors and patterns. From the shapeliness of Toolbox to the geometric wonder that is Harlekin, the versatility and flare of graffiti can now be delivered to the home or to commercial applications, allowing people to marvel at interiors the way they now do while observing painted cityscapes.
“Our Studio Collection celebrates the larger-than-life graphics and declarative colours often used in graffiti art, which has become its own culture and has a rich history stretching from prehistoric cave drawings to mischievous teenage rebellion on the streets of Paris,” says Raymond.
Fashion
The relationship between fashion and interior design is ever-evolving but has never been more intertwined than it is today. Fashion is a dynamic part of culture, shifting with the times and embraced by those looking to distinguish themselves and their aesthetic from the hoard. From Coco Chanel to Donatella Versace, major European fashion houses and their leaders have left their mark on the patterns, palettes and trends that have defined generations. For interior designers, one of the best methods for staying ahead of developing industry trends is to look at what’s currently going on in the world of fashion. More and more, consumers are realizing that not only can they express themselves through their fashion choices, but also through home decorating.
“Studio draws inspiration from the idea that fashion informs society, from the unapologetic Victorian styles of Miraflores to the playful Origami, much of the collection’s look and feel is reserved for true fashionistas,” says Raymond.
Photography
Photographers see the world through a different lens, which uniquely positions them to understand the complexities and true nature of how the world around us works. While painters deliver passion through the brush, photographers patiently wait to capture the perfect moment.
“We wanted to capture the technical aspects that make photography what it is through Studio, from the earthy Etrusco reminiscent of a shoot in the African wilderness to Botanic Garden, which invokes images of a photographer peeking through the brush to capture something in its natural element. Photography is similarly eternal to our new designs, which will be etched into onlookers’ memories for a lifetime,” says Raymond.
Who is Studio for?
The Uniboard Studio Collection encompasses 20 unique TFL designs in Vellum finish on a particleboard or MDF core and HPL. No matter which pattern you choose, whether you opt for a minimalist style or a daring one, Studio will allow you to redefine creativity in all your projects.
Though suitable for residential use, the Studio collection is best applied to large-scale projects and was created for the architectural, interior design, commercial and institutional segments. From hotels and lounges, restaurants and retail spaces, to offices, banks, schools, spas, and everything in between, Studio offers an impressive collection of digital designs and patterns to add luxury, style and personality to any aesthetic without sacrificing functionality or quality.
The Studio Collection considers the rising importance of psychographics, sustainability and authentic design styles to commercial interior designers and architects in today’s industry.
“To create a collection that inspires authenticity in projects, whether residential or commercial, required us to develop a deeper understanding of the attitudes, values, interests and lifestyles of the people who would ultimately be interacting with our product – the consumer,” says Raymond.
No matter the building, room or space you choose to design with Studio, this collection is sure to resonate with users. From urban and edgy to warm and inviting, Uniboard’s Studio Collection is sure to transform any environment, creating an immersive encounter for those who experience it.
